Integrated dual-diagnosis treatment addresses depression and SUD simultaneously rather than sequentially. The approach pairs evidence-based addiction treatment (medical detox, MAT where indicated, structured behavioral therapy) with psychiatric assessment, medication management for depression, and trauma-informed therapy. SSRIs and other antidepressants are typically introduced after detox stabilization and require several weeks for therapeutic effect.
